Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Gen) – Farsight Weather Not Displaying / “nest.com/m2” Error

Randy22
Community Member

My Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Generation) has stopped displaying weather information on the Farsight screen. This began recently without any changes to my network or settings.

When Farsight is set to show weather, the display either shows nothing, or the thermostat gives an error message such as “Can’t get the weather right now” and sometimes refers to “nest.com/m2.”

Troubleshooting I have already tried:

  • Confirmed the thermostat is fully connected to Wi-Fi
  • Restarted the thermostat
  • Restarted my router
  • Verified my home address and ZIP code in the Nest/Google Home app
  • Updated to the latest available firmware
  • Re-enabled Farsight settings
  • Confirmed the display works for other Farsight modes (e.g., temperature)

Despite these steps, the weather still does not appear.

Additional context:

Multiple other 3rd-generation Nest users are reporting the same M2 weather error recently, so this may be a wider backend or service issue affecting weather data, not a local device problem.

Request:

Please advise whether this is a known issue on Google’s side and if there is an estimated timeline for a fix. If not, please provide troubleshooting steps beyond what I’ve already attempted.

Thank you.

What would cause both my 3rd gen google thermostat to stop showing the weather. It’s not my WiFi. I rebooted it with no change. It said it’s not available at this time. Is there a fix?

I have the issue, showing nest.com/m2 under the error. Can’t see any issues on the service status page.

So something on there end then. Mine shows the same🧐

The service status page is probably correct - services are up, but the APIs are dead.

Same issue here in Canada, started 3 days ago, just wasted over 40 minutes on tech support chat with a Jennifer who insisted that my 3rd generation learning thermostat is not equipped with this farsight feature. I assured her that it does have it and that it’s worked for years before now. She said she consulted with her higher up team and still insisted that it’s a feature only available on the fourth generation thermostat?
How can they possibly fix this issue if they don’t even know their own products?

we need to get a free product replacement for this $350 unit if not supported anymore

Yeah, the feature is not available on 3rd gen thermostats - that’s why there’s a whole page on solving weather data connectivity issues with 3rd gen thermostats, right?

Anyway - it appears to be a result of the CloudFlare crash. The issue is visible in multiple countries.

How long will this take to fix as clearly there support is not much help.

same issue in NY, USA on all three of my gen 3 products, seems to be pretty widespread

Same in US. I have 3rd generation. Feature worked for years. Stopped few days ago

It seems like a widespread issue and there’s a thread on Reddit (with claims that Google is aware and it may need a firmware update).

 https://www.reddit.com/r/Nest/comments/1p1ywji/my_3rd_gen_nest_thermostat_doesnt_display_the/

I’m having the same issue on two of my Nest third generation thermostats in NY.  Weather had been showing for years with no issues.  For the last two days when I approached the thermostat I am getting a cloud  with an ! in it and the message: Can’t get the weather right now as well as nest.com/m2.   Other functions are working on the thermostat. It is connected to the network and the app.

Restarting my gen 3 thermostat worked for me. Takes about a minute.

Restarting my gen3 thermostat resolved the issue for me. Takes about a minute.

Mine finally came back online yesterday. I didn’t touch it.

The weather is also working again for me on my gen3.

Fixed itself overnight - which add credibility to the CloudFlare crash collateral damage theory.

Tried chat support yesterday, they parked my case with ‘senior support personnel’ supposed to get back to me via email. Good strategy when you know it will fix itself. At least they didn’t try the ‘feature not supported on 3rd gen’ stuff - particularly embarrassing when the first sentence of the link shown on the thermostat (nest.com/m2) describes Farsight as ‘a feature that’s exclusive to the 3rd gen Google Nest Learning Thermostat’.

Used to see weather icons and temperature on second push of ring on Nest above the time. Now time is the first thing to see no more weather or temp info. Other unit in house still shows all info both came with the house new.

Thanks for any help

Thanks for the reply my other nest is displaying properly do not get why this one will not show the same as before.

Nest is on line but cannot get weather. I have reset the WiFi router and the device but it still will not find the weather.

Same here, reset with no luck. Followed all steps between nest and home apps, also no luck. Guess we wait, relieved it’s not just me though.

Appears to be a world-wide issue. But not seen any response from Google to this issue....

Our UK 3rd generation thermostat has been showing "Can't get the weather at the moment. nest.com/m2" all day. It's contactable via the app so clearly doesn't have a WiFi issue, I have restarted it but it made no difference. The Nest 'status' page doesn't show any issues but I know not to trust that. Anyone else got the same issue?

Same issue for me today all day

Yep same here

Same error here

I'm in the US, but mine has been like this off and on now for about 3 days.  I know it's connected to wifi, I can control with app both at home and away.  But no weather.

Mine is the same and not working at the moment with the same error. I tried to restart router and the thermostat is online plus all looks ok on the app. So hopefully they can resolve it soon as I like that feature

Same here. Started having the issue this morning...

Same issue with Nest 3 not showing weather. Device updates are current. WiFi is connected correctly and functions properly.

Same here in Canada. The problem started last night.

Same here in the UK been like that since yesterday, gone through all the troubleshooting and restarts and still no joy. Router WIFI been restarted and device is 100% connected to WIFI. Done some research and it seems to be a national outage with the Gen3’s. I believe they are waiting for a software update to resolve it

With Nest/Google abandoning the thermostats, it feels like we are going to see more reliability issues until they inevitably abandon the 3rd generation devices too. This is the second fault I have experienced this month. I am so annoyed for 1st & 2nd generation owners, no proper thermostat manufacturer would just switch off functionality.

That’s the problem, Google is not a thermostat producer, but a greedy software company.

same issue in the UK. I've found this post which is useful.
