Dual fuel system

I have a nest gen 3 set up with a dual fuel system heat pump and LP gas furnace and have had for a few years now. I’m not really impressed with the performance of the system in its current state with the nest thermostat. Wires y1 g o rc w1 w2. It has temp lock outs that control which system to use and I find it very inefficient. As I have to set a temp when it will shutdown the heat pump and turn on the furnace. I can’t lower the temperature at night because the heat pump takes too long to warm the house up. I stumbled across a discussion regarding heat pump balance and was wondering what I wires I’d have to swap to get this option to show. After reading about about heat pump balance it seems that this may make the system work the way I want to as it will split between gas and electric. Any help is appreciated.

No wires need to be switched you do it in the settings.

Read this article.

  • If you have a dual fuel system, a type of system with a heat pump outside and a separate heater installed inside your home, you won't be able to use Heat Pump Balance. If you have a dual fuel system, you can set a lockout temperature manually in the Nest thermostat's Equipment menu.
