How do I get my furnace to turn on automatically while I’m away on the Eco setting? I know this goes against the spirit of the Eco setting but is there a way I can come home to a warm house without having to remember to set it to the Home routine every day an hour before I’m home? Setting the schedule doesn’t seem to work. It will only turn on while my phone is home. Any suggestions?

Or, put another way is there some way that Nest could create an exception rule in the Eco setting and in the schedule where a temp setting is done regardless of the phones location?

You can turn off Home/Away Assist, and then the Nest will behave as an ordinary, not-smart programmable thermostat. (For the reason you mention, and others, I don't use Home/Away Assist at all. Home/Away Assist is helpful for people with such an irregular schedule that they're willing to come home to a cold house in exchange for energy savings when they're not home.)

Hey Folks,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community forum.
When your Nest Thermostat is in Eco mode, it needs to know and detect that you're home to be able to change back to cooling/heating mode. What you can do is to change to heating mode manually by saying the command to your Google Assistant. It is an easier way to get your home warm before you arrive.
Thanks for your insights, CBFox.
Best regards,
Ryan
