End of Support for older Nests rant

I know there are already many posts about this but Google can kiss my you know what if it thinks I am shelling out money to replace a perfectly functioning product.   As a long time Google product owner since the Nexus 5 phone, Android TV, etc I might go out and trade this Pixel 9 that I am writing this post from and get an iPhone instead.  Screw you Google and your crack development team that recommended bricking the Nest thermostats.

Should be a free replacement if they are not going to support their products. I was going to purchase a few cameras but not any more.....

@God_particle ,

Your Goggle Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen) is not a brick. It still functions ad a thermostat and will continue to run the heating and cooling schedules provided you created them.  It will still make you air conditioner or heater.

It’s effectively the same as the wired wall thermostat without remote access which we paid hundreds to replace. Don’t try urinating in our faces and telling us it’s a warm shower. I’m pretty sure this is illegal under uk/eu (which we were in when I bought it) consumer law. I suggest all 1st/2nd gen owners in uk/eu mobilise to fight this and certainly we need to leave reviews for existing retailers selling remaining stock of google thermostats that they can be effectively bricked with next to zero warning removing functionality that we have already paid for.
people who paid for professional installers for these devices will be hundreds out of pocket not to mention the sustainability impact from ewaste-ing perfectly functional devices just to satisfy corporate greed.

@RiKxYou are correct with the UK Consumer Law, doesn't matter about EU.

UK Consumer Law states, must be fit for purpose, and last for a reasonable time., and be of reasonable quality.

However, that will cover you for about 5 years on such a purchase of that value. The question would be, how old is your thermostat?

I am always going on about UK 2015 Consumer Law on here, but now this could be a real chance to give it a go. Please update us how you get on with your claim.

I think this goes beyond this section of consumer law as it was SOLD with this key feature. This is akin to buying a house and then the person who built the house coming in and closing off a room, sealing it up or removing it entirely because they want to. Or putting a CD/DVD etc. in to watch/play and a pop-up coming up a third through saying that you need to upgrade to a streaming service to watch/listen now.

 https://youtu.be/tfAchfFXghc Tado behaviour for those interested. They faked charging customers a sub to continue to have remote access.

Correct, and I am amazed anyone would pay for a new Nest, knowing there is a high risk of Google pulling the same shenanigans again in a few years. We paid (a lot) extra for the connectivity of these thermostats, so to remove that feature and say buy a new one is clear cut malfeasance.
