Thanks for reaching out here @Jackt167 @Donna2904 and @JohnnyRoyal. I would be happy to try and assist.
If you have not already, check the Heat Link. See if it has any LED light on it and press the button on it to see if you can use the manual mode, thanks for the suggestion @sc0tsh . Let me know if you have any LED on the Heat Link and if it activates or not.

Thanks for the reply. There were no lights on my heat link at all even after pressing the switch. So I spoke to my engineer and said that that I need a new thermostat and heat link which I have brought £189!!
however I did speak to Google Nest support and they have arranged an engineer to come out tomorrow and fit a new heat link free of charge! So glad now I contacted them and they could help, great service

I’m afraid it means you need a replacement nest heat link ( the white box that connects to your boiler ) I called nest customer services and they arranged for an engineer to come out today . Fantastic service

You can switch your boiler on via the heatlink. You just need to press it once I think and you'll see the green lights for heat and water and it should then come on. I was getting the h71 error message as well for one for the rooms I placed the nest in and worked out I could switch it on this way.

Thanks again for your suggestion @sc0tsh . Manual mode can be helpful when there is something going on with the display. Did you manage to reconnect your display with the Heat Link?

Hi, yes I reconnected but had to move the nest to the hallway to do so. We had it in the bedroom when the connection cut out. We live in a flat so have moved it like 2 meters in to the hallway so I'm a bit annoyed that it doesn't work in the bedroom. This is the coldest room in the flat and so this is where we had the last thermostat, which was also wireless (though not WiFi) and worked fine. Most advice is to have it in the hallway (or at least not in the bedroom) but this means that the bedroom can take a lot longer to heat up and as it is at least 2 degrees colder (I checked this using the old thermostat we have) so when the flat reaches say 19 and is fine, that's not necessarily fine for the bedroom. It doesn't make much sense to me that it doesn't work there.

Thank you for the information. I am happy to hear you managed to get them connected.
There are numerous factors that will influence the connection between the Heat Link and the thermostat display. If you have it connected back, try and move it to the previous location and see how it behaves. If you see it disconnect again. If it does consider the distance between the Heat Link and display, material the walls are made off, water and electric lines going through them, objects such as mirrors and the installation of the Heat Link, to make sure it is at least 30 cm from the boiler and any other electronic or metal objects and that the boiler is not between the Heat Link and the thermostat display.
Also consider devices that may cause interference such as smart TVs, microwaves, baby monitors, etc. .
