Fan NEVER stops when Airwave is on

Dyann

I have had my nest thermostat for a while now, but due to a recent issue with my AC unit (not related to Nest), the HVAC guy turned on the Airwave function.  But now, the fan NEVER stops running.  I thought Airwave was supposed to only run for a few minutes after the compressor stopped, but in my case, it runs indefinitely.  Is this an indication that something is wrong with the Nest unit?  Shouldn't the Airwave stop after 5-10 minutes?  I feel like this will actually hurt my energy consumption in the long run rather than help!

Just in case people need to know what the resolution was.  I, without the help from Google's very unhelpful team, figured out that the technician had utilized the Fan Schedule function and set it to Always On.  Once I turned the Always On off, the system functioned as I would have expected.

Hi Dyann,

Sorry for the late response here and for the confusion with the Airwave functionality. Have you tried disabling Airwave to see how things change with the system? We have a help article about how Airwave works and how to turn it off and on here: https://bit.ly/3wkrcje. Take a quick look through that article and see if some experimenting can provide a few answers. Let me know if you have any additional questions on this.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I have tried turning off Airwave and it does stop the fan when I do so, but I'm really trying to determine if my Airwave is malfunctioning in general.  The fan always runs and the articles I've read indicate that the fan typically only runs for 5-10 minutes after the actual AC stops, so why is mine running the fan all the time.  I can turn the tech off, but if it is intended to help with my AC bill overall, I'd want to keep it on and instead fix the fact that it causes the fan to run constantly.

I read the article you linked to and understand what the tech is supposed to do, so perhaps there is another article that can help me figure out why Airwave causes my system's fan to never shut off?

Thanks for your help!

Dyann

Hi Dyann,

Your understanding of Airwave is correct. It should not be running nonstop unless you have your fan set to run continuously. It should act as you mentioned with the 5-10 minute extra time. I'll need to look more into this for you. I'll let you know when I find other causes we can look into. If anything changes on your end, let me know.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Ryan,

Yes, I saw Jeff's response and followed up on his initial reply with the link to the help article.  That last response indicated he was going to do some additional investigation on my behalf.  Is there a message I missed and am not seeing in the thread that you are referencing?  Or perhaps this is just a canned response?

Hi Ryan,

Your last applicable response was that your team was going to investigate. Have you found anything?
