Feature request: Allow running my fan while heating and cooling are both off.

Please allow me to run the fan while heating and cooling are set to Off. Right now, it's only possible to run the fan when the thermostat is set to Heat, Cool, or Heat/Cool. This is bad when I'm trying to circulate fresh air with my windows open since I'll handle a wider temperature range than normal. To prevent my heat or AC running with the windows open (wasting a bunch of energy), I have to completely erase my temperature schedule: if I merely adjust the temperature setting without clearing the schedule, the heat or AC can (and often does) kick in on it's own at the next scheduled temperature point. I need a way to run my fan without worrying about the heat or AC accidentally turning on and without erasing the schedule the thermostat learned.

I agree it would be nice to be able to run the fan alone as you suggest.  In the meantime, though, "Eco mode" can provide an easier workaround than erasing your whole schedule.  Set the Eco temp to be very high (if Nest is set to Cool) or very low (if set to Heat), and then manually turn Eco mode on whenever you want to circulate outdoor air.  Of course, if you're also using Eco as your regular "Away" temperature, it's kind of a pain to have to adjust it frequently to handle both of these situations, but easier than rebuilding your whole schedule.

My Eco temps are my away temps (set in consideration of my dogs), so it's a workaround, but not a reliable solution. This really needs to be a proper feature.

Hi Kaasp,

Thanks for your reply.

At the moment, there's no option to turn on the fan if your thermostat is set to off but we'll take this as feedback to improve our product and services. We thank you for your feedback and suggestions.

If you have any other questions, let us know by creating a new thread as this will now be locked.

Best regards,

Ryan

That does not resolve my issue. I am aware of how to turn the fan on. My issue is that I need to be able to do so without being set to Heat or Cool mode. In other words, this restriction (from the page you linked) needs to be removed: "However, you can only run the fan when your thermostat is set to a temperature mode (like Cool mode, for example). You cannot run the fan if your thermostat is set to Off."
