Forgot my Pin and Locked out, don't have the thermostat in the Nest App

I thought I unlocked the Learning Nest 3rd Gen before removing it from the app on my phone but there is still a pin on the device and I do not remember it. I am completely locked out. I tried this but it did not work for me.

To resolve this situation, please connect your Nest Thermostat to your computer using a USB cable. This will allow us to see if your computer detects the technicalinfo.PLIST file.

If you're able to connect successfully, please contact us to provide you with instructions to reset your Nest Thermostat. Your community thread is #44842218.

Would this work with the 3rd Gen? Would it require the battery to be drained?

Yes, it can work fine with this 3er Gen thermostat and is not necessarily draining the battery for this process.
