Hello!
I have the cheapo G4CVZ. Installed a few months ago and no problems until today when I saw the dreaded "Very low battery" warning.
Questions:
Am I right in understanding that this model uses alkaline batteries? The white battery sleeve with no markings makes me doubt...
Assuming the C-wire was working correctly, I would guess that the battery should have lasted much longer?
I see (below) that I still have a good VIN even when the system is heating. Am I right in understanding that this means that the C-wire is functioning correctly?
Details (right now while system is on/heating):
Connected to wires: C-W-R (heat only system)
VIN: 32.3V
LIN: 385
PS: C-385
Battery Voltage: 3.127V
Battery Impedance: 2372 mOhm
Thank you!

Hello logidelic,
I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you — let's see what's going on.
The C wire conserves battery life because the thermostat only uses the batteries when the thermostat experiences power loss. Under normal operating conditions, the battery life is expected to last for about 2 years. However, depending on the Wi-Fi activity on the thermostat, the battery life might last longer or shorter.
I'd suggest replacing it with the recommended batteries: AAA 1.5 V alkaline batteries, such as Energizer AAA 1.5 V Alkaline Battery.
Please let me know if that helps.
Best regards,
Mark

Thank you very much for the response. I replaced the batteries, but it is still mysterious as to why they died after only a month or two... For now I will wait to see how long the new ones last before investigating further...
Thank you again!
