Getting Humidifier to follow Time of Use Pricing

GoneSailin

Is there a way to get the Humidifier to follow time of use pricing like the Nest Renew capability?

I have a steam humidifier, and it consumes a large amoung of power.

Currently, I have it blocked off in the app using the "quiet time" setting, so it will only come on from 8pm until 6am. My time of use is split though, so there is a period mid day where it would be good to allow it to run, and also on the weekends.

It would seem that the humidifier could follow the time of use pricing like Nest Renew and not need me to adjust it for weekend use in the winter.

Thanks!

Hello GoneSailin,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd love to help.

Systems like humidifiers and dehumidifiers can be noisy. Enabling the Quiet Time at a certain hour is to avoid having your system disturb you while you're sleeping. So, the Nest Renew and the time-of-use energy rates are not supported for this equipment. With this, please let our product team know about it by sending feedback, and rest assured that our team is working non-stop with different partners to bring the best features to the Google Nest Thermostats.

If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know. Otherwise, this thread will be locked within 24 hours.

Yes, I understand that I'm using "Quiet Time" as a workaround. What I'd like to have happen is the thermostat use the Time of Use pricing to not turn on my steam humidifier during peak power pricing. The steam humidifier draws about a kilowatt, so having the thermostat not turn on the furnace fan (also uses electricity) and humidifier during peak rates would be super helpful. Until then, I'm using "quiet time" to prevent the humidifier from turning on from 6am to 8pm because I can't have an "on" window in the middle of the day, it only supports one contiguous time. I'm happy to leave the humidifier run at night when power is cheap.

Can you please develop Nest Renew to support humidifier timing? A steam humidifier draws lots of power, so using it during peak pricing is very expensive.
