Googe Nest Thermostat Wiring Compatibility

huklin

Hi,

My current thermostat has wires connecting the following:

RC1, Y/O, W/B, G

with jumper cable between RH and RC

Not sure if this is compatible with the Nest Thermostat, as RC1 wasn't an option on the Home app during installation.  Is this synonymous with the missing C cable by any chance?

Thanks in advance!

You will just need to put the rc1 wire on nest Rh and then W Y G. No jumpers needed for the Nest.  But you don't have a C wire. So check if there is a spare wire in the cable preferably blue to use for C. Then you need to go to the furnace and connect same color wire to the C common terminal.  If no extra wire in the existing thermostat cable you will need to run a new cable or get the C device. I highly recommend running a new wire tho if needed.
