Google Home App Android and IOS can't switch On or Switch Off Nest Thermostat.

Hi All,

Since 4 days the Google Home App and Google Home devices stopped responding to Switching On and Off the nest Thermostat. Either through the Google home app or through voice commands to Google home devices. It is responding well to temperature change. Also worth noting that the Nest App is working fine.

Anyone is or has faced a similar issue in the past few days?

Hi,

I also have this issue with my thermostat. Everything works ok through the Nest app but when using the Google home app it doesn't work even when you ask Google to turn on the heating it will not turn on just keeps saying that there is something wrong with the heating. Tried uninstalling the Google home app and the Nest app and setting everything up again but still have the issue. Have noticed in the Google home app the on/off symbol is greyed out.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with controlling your Nest Thermostat using the Google Assistant. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • What's the command that you're using?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward,

Thanks for getting back to me.
I have the Nest learning thermostat 3rd generation.
I have tried everything from resetting the thermostat, Google home hub, uninstalled and reinstalled the Google home app even rest my rooter but still no luck.
The actual Nest app works as it should.
It's the Google home app will not turn on/off the thermostat also if I ask Google assistant to turn on the heating it responds with something went wrong with the thermostat.
When you open the thermostat device in the Google home app the power button symbol is greyed out. Don't know if this is normal or not.
Regards,
Craig

Hi Bulbs711,

Thanks for the update. I'd love to know more about this. Could you share a screen shot showing the grayed out power button?

Thanks,

Edward

I posted under a different thread that's not being responded to. Reposting here since it's the same issue and the additional information might help get to the bottom of the problem:

I'm experiencing the same thing. I have both Google Assistant and Alexa at home and 2 Nest Thermostats. They are still working with Alexa, but not Google Assistant through the Google Mesh units , the Google Assistant on the phone, or Google Home App on the phone. Because it's still working with Alexa, I know there's nothing wrong with the Nest Thermostats themselves. No issue with connection to WIFI. I can still control them on the units themselves and also through the Nest App on the phone. Just Google Assistant won't work with the Nest Thermostats. I can still use Google Assistant on other things in the house. So Google Assistant itself is still ok. Only issue is the link between Google Assistant and the Nest Thermostats. I tried using the Unlink Nest option, but it won't let me reconnect after agreeing to the fine print; and it stills shows linked. Can't figure it out...

Thanks for the info mate.

Let's hope they are looking into it?

Like I said I have tried everything from uninstalling/reinstalling the Google home app also the Nest app even reset my home router but still no luck.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for being here in the Google Nest Community.

I'd like to check a couple of things for us to get this issue sorted out. Were you able to log out and log back in to the Google Home app? Did you try to reboot your devices including the Wi-Fi router?

Thanks for the help here, Edwards.

Regards,

Ryan
