Google Nest Learning Thermostat Compatibility with W/E Wire Systems

Hello,

My heat pump thermostat wiring uses a single white wire marked W/E on my current Emerson thermostat. Photo attached. The Nest wiring compatibility tool did not list an option for a W/E wire, but does list separate W and E wires. What is the proper selection in the compatibility tool for a system that contains a combined W/E wire? Most importantly, is my current system wiring compatible with Nest thermostats, and specifically the Nest Learning Thermostat. Thank you!

The connector W/E is W for heating or E for emergency heat. Your system has 2-stages of cooling (Y and Y2) and the W/E is most likely the electric heat strips programed as emergency heat. For the nest configuration tool:

RH-Red Wire ; Power IN

O/B-Orange Wire; Reversing Valve Control

Y- Yellow wire; Compressor Contactor Control

G- Green Wire; Blower Fan Control

E- White Wire; Electric Heat Control

C- Blue Wire; Power Common

Y2- Black Wire; Cooling Stage 2 control

Jeff, I would like verify your outdoor system. Can you please go take a picture of the manufacturer label that shows the make, model and serial number and post it here please. If you notice the “*” after the Y2, that denotes a variable programmable connector. I wan to check your outdoor unit to make sure it has 2-stage compressor in it. Thank you.

Thank you for all of the input. I am not at the location where the heat pump is located, but I can tell you that it is an Amana 16 model ASZ16048 two-stage heat pump.

Note that I was only wanting to verify that a Google Nest thermostat would work with my heat pump. Thank you for all of your help.
