Google Nest Upgrade: Complete SCAM

I will NEVER buy another product from Google again.  It is a crime and a scam that you crooks try to say you no longer support a 4 year old device I paid $300 for and need to buy a new one.   You will only do the same thing 2 years from now for the Gen 3 and 2 years later for the gen 4 and so on.  This is a complete SCAM.  You don't introduce any new functionality and just scamming your customers.

There is already a class action lawsuit against you and for good reason.

I have already purchased 2 Wyze replacement Thermostats which do everything yours does and for $75.

Google should be ashamed!

@tomdfw1 ,

You are one of those people that simply taps “I agree” to the terms and conditions of the purchase.  The Goggle company produces very consumer products that make your life more rewarding. Every company has to face challenges like thus when technology advances lead to previous technology obsolescence.  It is fact of life in everything we buy. Your upset because the Nest Learning Thermostat Gen-1 and Gen-2 have been overwhelmingly positive in your life.  Now you can choose not to continue with a 4th generation and fully integrate and modernize your home with Google Gemini AI.  You will not be disappointed I can assure you that.

You have no idea who I am KAREN, so don't making any assumptions and try to tell me I am one of "those people".  I am not aware of any other thermostat or home appliances that EOL their products after 3 years and require you to buy a new one.  Just because you drink the "Goggle company" Kool Aid does not make you an expert on proper business practices.  There is already a class action lawsuit against Google for this malpractice.

If Google didn't want to screw their customers (and they will do this every 3 years to get their "renewal business", they could easily allow the current devices to work with the mobile app and Alexa/Siri.

I support customer focused businesses...and Google is not it!  I have already purchased two new devices and wish Google Nest a big lawsuit for screwing their customers!

D.amn, how stupid can you be... If Google chooses to abandon perfectly working devices for "security" reasons, well ok. But they should at least give the possibility to use them locally and share the documents/information to do this. Could be easily integrated into Home assistant for example. Now they are just making e-waste, from a smart thermostat it was, it's now a dumb thermostat. Only manual control is left... The device isn't broken, the support to keep using it is! No more google devices for me, and probably many more, can't trust them at all clearly. Stop simping companies that kill devices you bought for no reason other than greet...

@Gohan ,

Unlike you I have never made disparaging comments about another person in this community forum. You on the other have called me stupid. I have three university degrees in engineering disciplines and a Masters degree in Industrial Technology Management.  I was the Principle Investigator for International Connections Management Project a National Science Foundation initiative. I was a voting member of the Internet Engineering Task Force a founding member of the ATM Forum.  I have designed ASICs for advanced communications switching systems.  Needless to say, I do indeed under the intricacy of managing technology migration and how can affect older technologies.  You lack the business acumen to fully understand what it takes to manage a business operation such ad the Google Nest product group.
Let me see if I can enlighten you just a bit.  The older technology hardware is not compatible with the newer hardware technology software and firmware.  The older hardware and software cannot support nor integrate into the newer hardware and software.  A decision has to be made. Does Google spend financial resources on older technologies thus driving up operational costs with no possible revenue return? Now they could changed to software subscription model where if you want to keep your old thermostat and Nest for say $10.00 per month per device, would you pay that? Not likely and you would still speak out negatively about the Google.
So the correct business decision is to put maximum resources into Google Gemini integration to Google Home which has a much greater revenue return.  Then Nest Gen-3 and Gen-4 are part of that evolution.  You can choose to not be part of that evolutionary transition.  You can bad mouth me and Google and still the technology will evolve further and further and with all Google Nest Products.  I for one see the teal value proposition in sticking with Google and the Nest Learning Thermostat Gen-4.

Saying the guy lacks business acumen for not being hoodwinked by Google's cash grab as you fully support said cash grab based on self interest is a little much.   Funny it is Oct 25 I get a notice from Google about the last day blah blah blah and for some reason my heat is not working.  Coincidence, I don't know; however my heat was fine yesterday.    Anyways Eco-Bee here I come.    This genocide supporting company can pound sand.

I know lots of stupid people with degrees and fancy job titles. Half of them are dumb as a box of rocks. I see them all the time. Most of them don't even know they're dumb.

@Blackwing, I am not employed by Google, I have a great deal of experience in manufacturing and management.  Perhaps you have never worked in manufacturing management or have the knowledge of project management. Or understand Product marketing and more.  What many consumers are very good at at is simply complaining about something they do not like.
I for one understand the many nuances associated with developing a product concept, the market research, competitive analysis, budgeting, product management and more.  It is easy to complain, it takes a strong business acumen to understand.  I for understand that the product managers, marketing managers, directors, and executives did not make this decision lightly. They knew that consumers would complain about the decision when they decided to end of life a product.  It probably took a year and countless meetings before the decision was reached. The decision was the correct decision for Google.  The older products and the Nest App were no longer compatible nor viable for future product evolution.  What ended was the Nest App.  The architecture of the Nest app and the two thermostats married to the Nest app are simply no longer viable. The cost alone of keeping the software engineers and product managers engaged with the obsolete technology is not good for business.

The Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen) was released in 2012, and the 3rd gen in 2015. If you bought a 2nd-gen four years ago, you didn't buy it from Nest or an authorized retailer, because Nest stopped selling them when the 3rd-gen was released.
