Heat Source Setting

ChronicSage

Hi,

I just installed my Nest Thermostat. During set up when it asked me what the Heat Source was I chose the option 'I don't know'. I went ahead through the setup and everything seems to be working correctly, the heating and cooling. Later online, I found out that the heat source to my townhome is Gas - Forced Air. Then I noticed that in the Google Home app > Settings of the Thermostat,  it shows the heat source as Electric - Forced Air.

Now I'm wondering:

  • Did Nest choose the right heat source for me when I selected 'I don't know' during setup?
  • If the source is Gas and not Electric how is everything working fine?
  • Should I change the source to Gas now? and if so, how?
  • If it is OK to leave it as Electric? or would that be detrimental in some way?

Please advise,

Sage

Hey Sage,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Google Nest Community.

It is best to change the heat source to the correct one. Although it is working now with the incorrect heat source, we might encounter some issues in the future. Here's a step by step guide on how to do it:

  1. Press the thermostat ring to bring up the Quick View menu.
  2. Select Settings > Equipment. You’ll see all the wires currently connected to your thermostat.
  3. Continue. You’ll see a list of equipment attached to your thermostat.
  4. Choose Heat type, then select the type of heating you have.
