Heat is turning on when i try to turn on Cooling. Heating works fine

I wasn't having Common wire attached to my 6 years old thermostat. It was working fine, but last weekend it lost power and stopped working. i connected the common wire (kept rest of the wiring same) and my heat is working fine.
When i turn on Cooling, heat is turning on. My a/c is also turning on (the unit outside the house for cooling a/c gas) but getting hot air. seems like A/c and heat is turning on together.

Please suggest how can i fix it.

Thanks for reaching out to our Nest community. I'm so sorry for all the inconvenience controlling your temperature in your Nest Thermostat. Don't worry, I'm here to help you with it.

I completely understand this situation. Let me lend you a hand to find the solution. Could you help me with some questions?

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
    When did the issue start?
  • Are there any error messages?
  • What kind of HVAC system do you have?
  • Do you notice any intervals or specific patterns between these strange behaviors?
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?

With these details we can find an answer for this situation.
