I switched from a Honeywell th8320r1003 to a Nest Thermostat for our forced air + heat pump + electric aux system.
The problem I’m seeing after that transition is that often, when the forced air starts, it takes the heat pump something like 5-10 minutes to start spinning. As a result, on cold days we have very cold air blowing around our house until the heat pump turns on.
I did see this on occasion (once or twice a year) with the Honeywell unit, but it’s almost every time with our Nest.
Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

Hi Jnieman21,
Sorry to hear about what's going on with your Nest thermostat. I want to dig deeper into this.
A few questions — what specific Nest thermostat do you have? Could you provide a photo of your old Honeywell thermostat's wires as well as your Nest thermostat wires today? Also, if you've already tried some troubleshooting steps, could you provide a brief summary?
Best,
Melba

Hi Melba! Apologies for the delay, and thanks for reaching out.
- I have the "Nest Thermostat" - just the basic, not the Learning: https://store.google.com/us/product/nest_thermostat?pli=1&hl=en-US
- Here's the old:
- Here's the new:
- So far, I've really just played with the settings in the Home app for things like O and B wire for heat pump and Duel fuel breakpoint. Nothing has made much of a difference.
Thank you!
Jacob

I had the exact model of Honeywell, and I upgraded to the 3rd gen net learning thermostat. I am currently having the same problem as you, both AC and the emergency/aux heat work find. But when I turn it to regular heat it just blows cold air.

Still happening to me, but it hasn't in quite some time due to season. I guess we'll find out in a week or two here 😬

Hi folks,
@Jnieman21, I'm sorry to hear that you're still experiencing this issue. Please observe it and let us know if it's still happening once you need to turn the heat on.
@Cmoody53, Thanks for reaching out. Could you share how your Nest Thermostat is wired and its power readings? You could find this info by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.
Thanks,
Edward
