Heating on too early

Fieldfare

We’ve got a LPG radiator heating system which has been great for the last year.  In the last couple of weeks it has started preheating way too early.  We work so schedule is for heat (with max duration set to 1 hour) in the morning, eco during the day then heat for when we get home from work.  As an example, yesterday the Nest turned the heating on at 3.15 to raise the house temperature by 1 degree by 5pm.  As a consequence it had reached temperature nearly an hour too early.  Any ideas anyone please?  True radiant is on and limited to 1 hour for morning; system definitely has the correct heating set up applied.

Hi ,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry your Nest Thermostat is preheating too early in your radiator system. I'm happy to assist you right now.

To get a better understanding of the situation, please help me out by answering the following questions:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • When did the issue first occur?
  • When was the thermostat installed?
  • Are all the wires of your thermostat seated firmly in its terminals (with no loose or exposed wires)?
  • Is there a wiring report or error message on your thermostat and/or app?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,

Gabriela

Hi Gabriela

We have a nest 4 I think, have attached a video,   Fitted with a new wet heating system in December 2023.
It is a wireless thermostat to the wired controller next the boiler, all wires have Ben checked on the system, all are housed/wired in correctly/tight in the terminals.

We first noticed the system turning on early in the afternoons in early winter 2024.

We monitored it and tried all of the self help idea that we could find on the Google sites/help.

It has started comming on at 1530 in order to lift the temperature by 2 degrees by 1730 irrespective of the outside temp.
Even on cold days when done manually it takes a max of an hour to lift the temp by 2 degrees

Any help would be appreciated….it is as though there are discrepancies with the thermostats internal wiring.

We have not had any reports/errors from the app or the display.

cant attach the video…..!

Regards

Richard

Hi

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my questions. I see that you have a Nest Learning Thermostat 4th gen to control the boiler, but it has started coming on at 1530 in order to lift the temperature by 2 degrees by 1730 irrespective of the outside temperature.

Can you please send me a picture of the current wiring on the Nest Learning thermostat to see if there are discrepancies?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,

Gabriela

Thank you for your reply.  How do I insert a photo via this messaging please?

Hi Gabriela

we are having issues sending you pictures, but will keep trying.

today the thermostat started the heating at 1530 when showing 18 degrees, thinking it needed to be on for 2 hours to lift the temp by one degree!

The heating was turned off, the temp display immediately changed to 17 degrees……..the heating was switch back on at 1630, it then took 45 mins to lift the temp two degrees to s is using a lot more gas than it should.

it appears to be a learning issue, any help would be appreciated.

Hi ,

I appreciate you keeping me informed. I understand that you have a Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd gen rather than a Nest Learning Thermostat 4th gen. I'm happy to continue assisting you right now.

The process is almost the same for your Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd gen but with the Nest app. I recommend checking the Nest app thermostat settings below:

Let me know how it goes.

Hi - we’ve done all that and it is all fine so no further  forward in finding out what the problem is.  I’ve tried to contact support three times with no luck 😡

We have exactly the same problem with the heating coming on as early as 03.00 to reach 18.5c by 07.00. Last Saturday it was pre-heating at that time and was already at 18c. The history page on the app shows that it is coming on at 02.00 every day and has frequently “turned off” several times before 07.00.

We ended up getting a new controller under warranty from Google so hopefully 🤞 that was the issue.  Only had the new one a few days so too early to say
