@kingsdaughter44 , yes you have a 2-stage Heating and 2-Stage cooling. You will need a Nest Learning Thermostat. The basic  Nest Thermostat cannot handle 2-stage of heat and 2-stages of cooling.

@AngelRQJ , when using the Google Nest Compatibility Checker, you should only input the wires that are currently attached to your Honeywell thermostat.  The fact that the blue conductor wire is there and not connected it should be ignored for now.

@Jacoby , you apparently have a heat-pump and that is why the installer put the brown jumper wire between Y and W.  The Nest Learning Thermostat does not need this wire jumper just like you ignore jumper between R and Rc.
Your HVAC system wires ate:

  • Rc red wire-Power 24VAC
  • Y/Y1 yellow wire-Compressor relay
  • G green wire-indoor blower fan
  • OB white wire-Heat-Pump Changeover valve
  • C blue wire - Power Common 24VAC

@Jacoby ,

your heat pump must be a B model and not an O model. To change it to go to display to settings and then equipment, and then you’re going to change the heat pump type from an O to a B and then it’ll be OK.

Hi,

Not sure if my Mitsubishi HVAC is compatible. Current thermostat controller has two wires only, red & white. Controller board is labelled BAN988

@manmantis, it sounds like you have a Mitsubishi mini split or ductless AC system and those all use a proprietary communications between the thermostat and the unit itself. They use a digital communications and a control language that unique to each manufacturer. They’re not conventional and you cannot use a conventional thermostat, including the nest thermostat with one of those units.

Hi there.  Need some help replacing this old Honeywell thermostat picture attached. It looks like we have eight wires coming out of the wall connected to the old thermostat but the nest that I have only has six..   any help with the wiring is appreciated

@dtolani ,

Your old thermostat wires and their function are as follows:

  • Red - 24V AC Power (R)
  • White - Auxiliary Heat (W2)
  • Blue - Emergency Heat (E)
  • Yellow - Compressor Relay (Y)
  • Brass Jumper Y to W1
  • Orange - Heat Pump Change Over (O)
  • Black - 24V AC Power Common (C)
  • Brown - EH Light (L)

I did the best I could on the colors of the wires. You will need a Nest Learning Thermostat.  The brass connector between W1 and Y will not be needed and neither will the L wire.
On the Nest Learning Thermostat the wires will be:

  • Red —> RC
  • Green —> G
  • Yellow —> Y1
  • Orange —> OB
  • Black —> C
  • White —> W2
  • Blue —> * (define as emergency heat)
  • Brown —> not used.

Is my wire able to use the nest thermostat.

White not being used.
Blue - label C

Red - w/ jumper label Rc & R

If all you have is two wires with one on R and the second on C, your thermostat is not controlling an heater or air conditioner yet.

Hello @Mariemarrr , do you only have an evaporative cooler and not an air conditioner or heating system?

To be able to upload a photo to this support community you must first acknowledge the email sent by google to verify your email id.

Hi @CoolingWizard

Yes it’s just an evaporating cooler. Not an a/c system.

The heating system is a separate unit. It’s a furnace heater. Would I be able to use the Nest on it?
