Help on determining thermostat compatibility with google nest thermostat

Hi, I need help to determine if my old thermostat can be replaced with google nest thermostat. I did online and it says it may work with my system, and also says sometimes it may need C wire which I don't have currently. SO please help me out if you happen to have same wire connection as mine or if you know HVAC system well. I hope I can upload a photo show, but I did not see the option. Thanks!

My current wire connection are below:

white wire ---W

Red wire --- Rh (then there is a jumper wire from Rh to Rc)

Yellow wire --- Y

Green wire ---- G

Will this wire connection be compatible with nest google thermostat?

Thanks!

Hi iflychina80,

Thanks for posting in the Google Nest Community forum. Fortunately, your system is compatible with the Nest Thermostats. However, if you prefer to use the Nest Thermostat 2020, you must need a C wire for it to receive sufficient power from your HVAC system. Also, Nest Thermostats don't need a jumper wire, so please keep it disconnected and just use the red wire connected to the RH terminal.

Let me know if you still have questions or concerns, as I'll be willing to help.

Best,

Jenelyn

Thank you for your reply!

Could you please specify which nest thermostat I can use it without problem? Like a link? I don't know about nest thermostat, so no knowledge about nest thermostat 2020.

Also, if you don't mind could you please share a wire connection photo of which wire label I should connect to for each wire I current have on old thermostat? I don't have a nest thermostat yet. But I am referring to the one on Amazon (charcoal color, please see the link below). Thank you again!

Hi folks,

@iflychina80, chiming in—fortunately, your thermostat wires are compatible with our Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation and Nest Thermostat E and should be wired to their bases as shown:

For Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation:

For Nest Thermostat E:

There is no need to include the jumper wire, as that is not needed for the Nest Thermostat. Also, here's a guide for the installation and setup of the Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation and Nest Thermostat E.

Let us know if that helps.

I appreciate your help, Jenelyn.

Thanks,

Zoe

Thank you both, Zoe and Jenelyn!

However, I am interested in Nest Thermostat (not the learning or E). Here is the link I refer to at Amazon. Could you please help to determine if this one is compatible or not? Thank you very much!

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us. If you wish to install a Nest Thermostat 2020, you will need to have a C wire (common wire) or a Nest Power Connector to supply additional power to the thermostat, as the Nest Thermostat 2020 is built to have a little power, so an additional power supply is needed.

With that being said, a Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd generation and a Nest Thermostat E are a convenient choice for you not to run additional wire for C from your control board to the thermostat base or to install a Nest Power Connector to your furnace control board since these kinds of Nest Thermostats mostly work without needing an additional power supply.

Regards,

Zoe
