Help to connect a Nest Power Connector

Hi,

I need help to install the Nest Power Connector.

I have a central system (heating/air conditioning) with 3 thermostats (3 zones).

The zone control panel is: Robertshaw Slimzone Classic 2701-001 (see the diagram and the board bellow).

I think the connection should be made in the Wire to Equipment section of the diagram, but I'm not sure 🤔

  1. In this section there is a Y W but no R.
  2. There is an RC and an RH and they are connected together.

I hope that someone could help me 🙂

Regards!

Hi jfortin105,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Installing the Nest Power Connector with your zone control panel requires careful consideration of the wiring and compatibility. Based on your description, it seems that the zone control panel you mentioned does not have a dedicated "R" terminal. Instead, it has separate "RC" and "RH" terminals that are connected together. In this case, you can usually connect the Nest Power Connector to either the "RC" or "RH" terminal, and disregard the jumper wire. Follow these:

  1. Before installing the Nest Power Connector or making any wiring changes, ensure that the power to your heating and cooling system is turned off to prevent any electrical mishaps. This typically involves shutting off the circuit breaker or removing the fuse that supplies power to the HVAC system.
  2. Identify the zone control panel and locate the terminal block or wiring connections where the thermostats are connected.
  3. Take note of the existing wires connected to the zone control panel terminals. Each wire should correspond to a specific function or terminal designation (e.g., "W," "Y," etc.). Make a clear note of the wires connected to the "RC" and "RH" terminals.
  4. Connect the Nest Power Connector to either the "RC" or "RH" terminal on the zone control panel. Ensure that it is securely fastened.
  5. Reconnect the existing wires to the appropriate terminals on the Nest Power Connector. The specific terminals to which each wire should be connected can vary depending on your HVAC system and the Nest thermostat model you're using. Refer here in the Nest Power Connector Installation Guide installation guide for the correct terminal assignments.
  6. Once all the connections are made, restore power to your HVAC system by turning on the circuit breaker or replacing the fuse.

It's crucial to follow proper safety procedures and consult the documentation provided by the manufacturer of your zone control panel and Nest Thermostat for accurate and specific wiring instructions.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

Hi Zoe,

Thank you for your reply!

When you say: "disregard the jumper" between the "RC" or the "RH", do you mean that I have to remove it or keep it?

Also just to be sure, I can use the RC or the RH to replace the R safely ?

Thanks again and I await your response.

Hi there,

Yes, you don't have to connect the jumper wire and you can either use the RC or the RH to replace the R.

Thanks,

Zoe
