This ones a mystery.
I have two nest thermostats at home and both will not detect any presence if walked in front of when connected to my mikrotik router. If I swap the router to another brand they detect presence and work flawlessly.
If I set the app to 'away' and walk back into the house the nest thermostat is stuck on 'Eco' and will not come off it as much as I jump up and down in-front of it unless I set it manually again with the dial. The thermostat itself will never go to Eco mode on its own even if I am away on vacation for 2 weeks.
I have tried everything to test what blocks the nest thermostat from talking to the servers from opening ports, completely disabling the firewall and fiddling with the DNS setting (which is google's). The strange thing is I can turn on and off away mode from the app no problem, it's just the thermostat can't do it itself.
Any help welcome.

Hi ObsoleteTech,
I'm sorry to hear that the Home/Away Assist is not working as you expected. I'd be happy to take a look into this for you.
Network interference could also trigger the presence sensing. Make sure cellular data, Wi-Fi and location service are enabled in your phone’s settings. When you open the Nest app, it will let you know if you’ve made any changes to your phone that affect Home/Away Assist. Also, try rebooting your devices and router to refresh the signal. This will help them to establish good connection.
Have a look at this article and let us know if you need more help.
Best regards,
Mark
