Honeywell Zone System (HZ322) with Power Connector(s)

I have a three zone panel that controls the heating and cooling systems. Heating is done by a furnace and cooling is done by a two stage AC unit.

My zone panel does not send power (c - common) to each thermostat. Each of the original Honeywell thermostats has batteries for power. I have a Y2, Y, G, W, R (and a pin to Rc).

I contacted Google support to ask them about how many Power Connectors I need in order to run power to my three thermostats. I provided the pictures of my panel, and they insist I only need one power connector. This seems wrong as each thermostat is run independently by each zone on my panel.

Can someone please confirm how many power connectors I need and the wiring I should plan to do?

Hello wkrinsky,

Thanks for reaching out here. I understand that the information you have can be confusing. I'd be happy to shed some light on the situation here!

In a multi-zone heating and cooling system with independent control for each thermostat, it's common to have a power supply for each thermostat. However, if you are planning to install Nest Thermostats, they generally require a power source for optimal performance. In a typical setup, you would need a Nest Power Connector for each thermostat. This provides a constant power supply to the thermostat, ensuring it doesn't solely rely on batteries.

In your case, with three thermostats, it's recommended to have three Nest Power Connectors, one for each thermostat. This way, each thermostat gets a dedicated power supply for reliable and efficient operation. Make sure to follow the Nest Thermostat installation guide and consult with a professional if needed to ensure a smooth installation process. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

Best regards,
Mark

Thank you for your clear response.

I spoke with a Google support person and was told I may only have one promo code per household for a Power Connector.

I find it surprising that although I paid for three units, they’ll only provide a promo  for one.

Ecobee includes a power connector with all of there units so I will look to switch.

Hi there,

I get your point. The Nest Power Connector promo is offered via email and the Google Home app based on your eligibility. You should receive a message during the wiring compatibility check or "testing your power" step in the installation process that you need a Nest Power Connector to complete the setup. The app gives you a link that allows you to order it from the Google Store at no additional charge.

By any chance, were you able to receive a message for the Nest Power Connector? Also, can you share with us your thermostat power readouts in the Equipment settings? This is to determine which thermostat needs additional power.

Regards,
Mark
