How can I control Nest thermostats in Google Home from a PC?

Hello all,

We recently received five Nest thermostats for our business through our energy provider. I'm trying to set things up so that our staff members can turn on/off most of the thermostats from the front desk PC as needed.

The rooms those thermostats heat/cool do not have pipes and do not need to be climate-controlled when we are not open for business.

I have set up the thermostats in Google Home, as Nest accounts appear to be being migrated there. However, the Google Home portal on the web does not show the thermostats at all.

Would I need to create a routine that shuts off the thermostats as a workaround for the time being, or is there another way to get the thermostats to show on the web?

Thanks for the advice!

Hi Upper_Limits,

Thanks for reaching out to us, and I'm sorry for the late response. If you have set up your Nest Thermostats in Google Home, but they are not appearing in the Google Home portal on the web, there could be a few reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

  1. Ensure that you are accessing the Google Home portal on the web using the same Google account that you used to set up the Nest Thermostats. It's possible that you may have used a different account by mistake.
  2. Open the Google Home app on your mobile device and check if the Nest Thermostats appear there. If they do, try syncing the devices by pulling down on the screen to refresh the device list. After syncing, check if the thermostats now appear in the Google Home portal on the web.
  3. Make sure that you have the latest version of the Google Home app installed on your mobile device. Additionally, check if there are any available updates for the Nest Thermostats themselves. Keeping both the app and the thermostats up to date may help resolve compatibility issues.
  4. Disconnect and then re-link your Nest account to the Google Home app. This can help refresh the connection and ensure that the thermostats are properly recognized in the Google Home ecosystem.

As for controlling the thermostats from the front desk PC, the Google Home portal on the web should provide that functionality once the thermostats are properly recognized. If the thermostats still do not appear in the web portal, you may need to use the Google Home mobile app or consider alternative solutions such as creating routines or using other compatible smart home automation platforms.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
