Nest Thermostat Raised Gas/Heat Bill

I recently had my energy company upgrade us to Nest Thermostat so we can use the rebate they offered us for heating and cooling. We have our temperature set to Eco and we earn leaves when we can. Our Gas bill has increased X2 since last year when we used our heat. We have it set to Eco while out of the house( 2 cats are still home) and have it set with schedules. Yet, our bill has skyrocket and shows we are consuming lots of gas per day on a eco friendly time frame while home and way based on recommendations. We and we have it set to Heat/Cool. Any help or ideas to why this is?
