How can I turn off ECO mode permanently?

VC5

How can I turn off ECO mode permanently on my Nest? It’s over 100 degrees in Texas and my thermostat has a mind of its own that leaves my family sweating far too often. I have set the schedule and it still goes into ECO mode between time frames. I see how to stop it from going into the mode when I am away, but while I am home sleeping, I can’t get ECO mode to turn off. How can I disable it permanently?

Try these steps:

  1. Open the Google Nest app.
  2. Select your thermostat.
  3. Select the Mode option in the lower left and set the mode to Heat/Cool.
  4. Select the Eco option in the lower center and end Eco Temperatures on all thermostats.

If you also want to stop it adjusting based on home/away assist and the auto-schedule features, select the Gear icon in the upper right and turn off the Home/Away Assist and Auto-Schedule options.

My Nest app will only allow me to select an option to turn on ECO mode for all thermostats, but not cancel. I did go to Heat/Cool and mix some things up there so we’ll see if that does the trick. Thanks for your help.

@Jenelyn_O - what options are available to stop eco mode, when in the nest app and the only option is to set eco indefinitely or to cancel changing the end time. I do not see the option to STOP eco mode.

This is a thermostat 1.4 model

Hey Katyb83,

Thanks for checking it with us. Could you please take a screenshot of what you only see in the app? It will help us to have a clear vision on what is the exact thing happening on your Nest app. Also, try to stop the Eco feature using the actual Nest Thermostat device.

You can follow this guide:

  1. Press the thermostat ring to open the Quick View menu.
  2. Turn to Eco leaf icon and press to select.
  3. Select Stop Eco.

Regards,

Jenelyn

@Jenelyn_O @Appreciate you checking in. After about 2.5hrs on the phone with the solutions team we are still not able to disable the eco temperature, so in the middle of the night and through the day eco is enable which is highly frustrating and uncomfortable and slightly dangerous give  it is 115 degrees in AZ these days.

I need to replace the nest thermostat since it doesn’t work.

This was the original case number. I’m not sure if we got another case when we had to call back for the 100minute call in front of the thermostat where we were told it was fixed.

Hey Katyb83,

Thanks for providing your case ID. Based on it, you were supposed to reset your Nest Thermostat but wasn't able to proceed. Please let us try to reset the device and re-setup your thermostat to the Nest app.

Give these steps a whirl:

  1. Go to the Nest app, then choose the thermostat you want to reset.
  2. Go to its settings, then remove the product.
  3. Reinstall the Nest app.
  4. Go to the actual device Settings.
  5. Look for Reset by turning the ring.
  6. Choose All Settings until it resets your thermostat.
  7. Once your thermostat is back, proceed with the setup.
  8. During setup, you'll see the page about Eco temperature that will give you an option for Heat to and Cool to, ensure to set Off to both of them.

Best regards,

Jenelyn

@Jenelyn_O - the nest thermostat rest was completed through another phone call with the Nest team. We reset the nest and attempted to deactivate Eco in the call. We were not successful. Post system reset, the thermostat continues to move to eco temp.
