Hi John619,

Sorry to hear about your thermostat troubles, Eco mode tends to be confusing but I'm happy to look into this. Let's get you back to the right temperature.

Can you try out the below steps for me?
Open the Google Nest app on your smartphone.
Select your thermostat.
Select the Mode option in the lower left and set the mode to Heat/Cool.
Select the Eco option in the lower center and end Eco Temperatures on all thermostats.

Let us know how it goes!

Nest goes to set temp and starts to ‘HEAT’but after 2 or 3 secs it switches back to ECO

Do not have the option to select heat/Cool

I have gone in app, I have gone to the thermostat itself, I have gone to my home page and have asked Eco to stop.

I have to do this 2-3 times a day!

My nest will take itself off my phone control periodically.  I have to reinstall the nest app and go through this Eco stuff for weeks after.

I am experiencing the same issue. I set my Nest to Heat mode, configured the schedule and leave it there. After a while, the thermostat switches itself to eco mode. Eco mode is not started on my side!

Resolved by disabling Home Away assist.

I see I could do that, but I would still like eco to come on when I actually leave the house. I guess it is just a bug in the system or a poor design... Sounds like I can have one or the other -- Eco mode turning on while I'm sleeping but at home and waking up to a cold house, or no eco mode and wake up to a warm house, but then have to remember to put it in eco mode every time I leave... For a $100 thermostat, I'd expect more.

I found in the google home app , with the new nest thermostats you can go to thermostat in the app, press the gear , press temperature preferences, then press temperature presets at the top , there youll see the 3 default settings for comfort , eco and sleep.  change them all to your desired temp.  i set them all at 70. i manually change mine temp as needed.  this way you can turn home away back on or work the schedule manually for yourself.  hope this helps someone!!  the nest app made it conveniently located , the home app doesnt show this as a clickable button, someone could think its the presets for the item's listed below it... not the case... google make it a shadowbox button already. like this if it helped

Right up there with you bro

I also have been having the same issues but only for the last month all of sudden like there was a update that made a mess of things . I've also had to them of home away assistant.  To stop it going into eco mode .

The software needs to be reworked. Forcing people to use Comfort, Eco, or Sleep is very limiting for a modern "smart" Thermostat. We should be able to set the Temps for each day, changing at whatever time you want. This software practically forces us to use it's time/temps.

I did the same thing and it seemed to work.

I have the same issue. I want to remove Eco mode ENTIRELY. It's the dead of winter and my thermostat at random hours of the day or night will switch to Eco mode and set itself to 56 degrees! This function DOES NOT WORK. All I want is for my thermostat to work like a thermostat. I need this removed and no matter how I try (using the app, on the thermostat itself) it keeps setting itself back to Eco mode. @User123456, the old thermostat worked so much better before!

Ditto!! Why did I pay $100 for a thermostat that wakes me up to a really cold house!?

I had the same issue with the thermostat constantly going into eco mode even I had home/away off and auto schedule off.  It seems that the thermostat “learned” to go to eco temps at certain times.  What worked for me is clicking schedule at bottom of Home Screen and then deleting the temperatures in the schedule for each day.

This has to be down to an update that’s gone wrong. Happening to us as well. Fix it guys!

Nest please do not lock this thread like you did with all the other threads regarding turning ECO off.  We need a solution!  You would think that Nest would have clear instructions after all these years!

Hi all,

I did what djscotec suggested (and a few other things):

a) I made sure any "schedules" were deleted entirely -- if you go into the calendar portion of the app that will show you the set schedules for Monday through Sunday. I deleted everything (we had just bought our house so the schedule was still set to the previous owner's times)
b) disable Home Away assist -- this will let the thermostat know that you're basically always home so it will never set itself to Eco mode

c) turned off the 3 default settings (comfort , eco and sleep to ) entirely

My thermostat now functions like a regular thermostat that I can control from my phone which is what I wanted

I tried all of the above suggestions and I think I am getting closer, but when I switch heat/cool to either just heat or cool only the ECO leaf pops back up......grrr   Do you have to keep it only on heat/cool to keep ECO off?

Thanks for all your responses!

Yup, I only do heat or cool -- I never set the fan on and I never set it to both heat/cool

The use for my thermostat is very very basic: heat when it's cold out, cool when it's hot out -- open the windows and create a draft whenever possible

I have same issue recently on my nest learning thermostat. Worked fine previous years.. I keep getting eco turned on when home and when sleeping. I tried all the settings I could locate.

This is a major bug ruining tge use of me thermostat. I do not want ECO to come on unless I choose it manually. But would rather have off permanent if this bug cannot be solved.

Please do software fix. ASAP so nothing externally (not me) changes my thermostat settings. This is very problametic.

Hi BillKo,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. To isolate the issue, could you check if your phone is being used for Presence sensing? If not, please enable it to isolate the issue. Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Settings Presence sensing.
  3. Turn on or off Allow this home to use phone locations.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Edward
