We installed a Nest e-learning thermostat for an elderly person who's almost always in bed. We'd like to set it to stay within a range (68-78 degrees) at all times (heating and cooling as necessary). We've had it turn off at night dropping the temperature to the low 50s, which is a problem. It would be good if there were directions to do this, but I can't find them, and the way it's been working is a huge problem.

It would be easier if you use the app. You can choose eco mode on and choose the temp range for heating and cooling. However, the sensor is built inside the nest, so it will turn on/off base on the temperature at the nest. If you want to have your nest work base on the room temperature you are in; I would recommend getting a nest temperature sensor, and connect it to your nest app. Hope this help.

HI everyone,
@Just_Dan, thanks for bringing this up here in the Google Nest community. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you. What we suggest is to use the Nest Thermostat Schedule. The Nest Learning Thermostat can learn your day-to-day schedule and adjust it accordingly. Auto-schedule learning is on by default, but it's just one option for scheduling temperatures on your Nest thermostat. If you'd like to learn about all the available options, check out our article about Nest thermostat temperature schedules.
Also, you can manually set the schedule for the Nest Learning Thermostat, open the Quick View menu, and then select the Schedule Nest thermostat schedule icon.
It will show you the schedule for the mode that your thermostat is currently in. So if your thermostat is in heat mode, the heating schedule will be shown. If it’s in cool mode, it will show you the cooling schedule.
Manually set your thermostat's temperature mode.
In addition to this, since you’re looking for directions for heat and cool modes, you can check out all about them in our article about Nest thermostat temperature modes.
Thanks for the input, @Athan1011.
If you have other questions, let us know. We're happy to help.
Cheers,
Renz
