Inconsistent heating

I live in the UK and recently (4 weeks ago) had a nest 3rd gen thermostat installed. I am finding it difficult to heat upstairs in the evenings as the thermostat is downstairs. I’m not convinced the temp displayed on the screen is a true reflection of my house temp. It’s installed in my dining room next to the kitchen and the furthest point form my upstairs bedrooms. Any advise? Do smart radiator valves work? Why can’t we get a smart temp sensor in the UK?

Locating a thermostat in that position probably isn't the best idea. Think about it, Kitchen and dining room are tucked away from your central location. A dining room is probably not used often, and the heat build up is based on that room alone.

I would probably think a standard central location as in most UK homes is the hallway.

Thanks for reaching out. I'll do my best to help. The temperature sensors are not compatible with the UK version of the thermostat, but you can get a stand instead. This way you can move the thermostat around your home. Smart radiators valves are not compatible with the thermostat, but you can still install them if you want to control them manually. Does the thermostat still show the wrong temperature after you restart it?

it’s ok, I’ve turned off the home assist as this seemed to be the problem. It would turn the temp right down to 13 degrees at random times of the day and night, it just didn’t seem to be able to heat at the times we were in. I now have the schedule on manual and it’s better although not really how a “learning thermostat” should be used. 
it seems the temp it was heating to was lower than what it needs to be. I have the schedule temp for the evening set to 20.5 and that’s quite nice. 
the thermostat display would have the small number on the outside as 20 degrees and the big number on the centre of the display would be saying it’s 18. It just didn’t seem to be heating. Also upstairs was always cold. Are their plans to bring the nest thermostat into the Uk/Europe? It’s not possible to move the thermostat as it’s connected to my boiler.

Hey @Paulrigs. Thanks for your reply. The Google Nest thermostat is already available in Europe. Did you mean the temperature sensors? I'm not aware of any plans bringing the temperature sensors in Europe. As for the stand, the thermostat won't need to stay on the wall anymore. It's connected wirelessly to the Heat Link ( the Heat Link is wired to your boiler ) and you can put the thermostat in any room.

Hi, yes I did mean the temp sensor. 
I have the heat  link connected to the boiler it is then also connected to the wall mount that the thermostat clicks on to. 
I can remove the thermostat and take it to another room? Is there a cover to put over the wall bracket? 
thanks for your help I might try moving the thermostat and trying the home assist again.

Hey @Paulrigs,

 

There's no cover for the wall bracket for the moment, but you can use the thermostat display and base on a stand instead of having it on the wall and that way you'll be able to move it around. Here's the link to it if you don't have a stand yet: https://bit.ly/35HIo4D.

thanks for getting in touch. I have been using it without the home/away assist which works well but I have to keep adjusting the thermostat. I have turned the home/away on this week to see if it can get a consistent schedule going. That was the main issue, we would be home during the day and it would turn down to 13 or 15 degrees. It’s linked to both my word and my phones so should know when one or both of us are home or away but seemed not to bake to do this. I still find it not heating upstairs as well as it does downstairs. 
we have it attached to the wall in the dining room and I’m reluctant to take it off and get a stand as I’d have to then fix the wall where it is attached.

Thank you for the information and sorry for the late reply. The Home/Away assistant should switch the home state to Away when both devices leave and at that moment the thermostat should switch to the Eco temperature. Once one or both devices are back it should switch back to Home and the thermostat should go back to it's usual schedule. Just to confirm, when coming back does the thermostat stay in Eco mode?
