Hello ZyWOo,
I assume that you have the "normal" Nest thermostat. Not the learning thermostat.
Then it is correct that you just have the W1 connection.
You can try to connect the Nest like it is and do without the 2nd stage (W2).
But then you have the problem that the second heat source (gas, heat strip, or whatever) will not switched on.
This MAY work if the winters are not so cold.
If you need more heat, the 2nd stage is recommended. Of course, this will cost you 2-5 times more energy.
If you really want to switch to NEST, the learning thermostat is recommended. This is of course associated with additional costs, which you should better "burn" with your existing thermostat.

Hello,
It should, yes.
W1 and W2 shows that you probably have two heat sources. (maybe an additional gas heater or an elecrtrical heat band, etc.).
You should first know what is connected to your system and if everything is compatible with Nest.
You can also use the Combability Checker for this.

I have a 2 stage heat pump, but the Nest Thermostat only have 1 W slot so I didn’t know what to do with the W2 wire from the old thermostat

@ZyWOo, I just wanted to drop by to check if everything is covered here. Let us know if you still have some questions.
Best,
Melba

Yeah I think they covers everything. I don’t think the Nest Thermostat I have will work. I’ll have to upgrade to the Nest Learning.
