Nest Thermostat works good only if you have a small tiny apartment. If you need to use with multiple sensors (I have 4 plus the main unit) is real crap.
These are my issues since I moved to a bigger apartment with differences of 3-4 F degrees of cold/hot.
- It doesn't support the temperature on the averages of the sensors, but only work on one sensor at the time.
- There are only 4 sensor scenarios during the 24 hrs and they are are not enough: they should be configurable and could be changed by the days of the week (i.e. during the week, in working hours, let the “office” sensor set the temperatures, while during the weekend let the “living room” set the temperatures)
- There is no Apple HomeKit support. I use mainly commands on the Apple Watch (having in my arms an infant almost all the time) and it’s insane that you can’t ask Siri to stop the cold air that Nest decides to blow in my face
- The app should have also a "PAUSE/Snooze for XX minutes" button when it's blowing crazy cold air and needs to stop (you can only turn off the system or increasing the temperature to avoid that…that is ridiculous). This issue is due to the poor management of the temperature from the sensors.
- Sensors have no occupancy feature.
What’s the roadmap in app updates to fix these issues?
Key feature:
- Improve the scheduling and customization of the Sensor Scenarios
- Allow the algorithm to set the temperature in the house based on the average of all sensors/rooms.
- Introduce a “snooze” button (I call panic button…because I literally have to swear every time that is already cold in the room and Nest keep blowing cold air)
- Add Apple HomeKit Support
I have seen the Ecobee Smart in action in a friend’s house and I have been blown away from how superior is it.
I didn’t even know they exist as I considered Nest the only and the best…but it’s not, as is based on a technology concept that is over 10 years old and built for one sensor apartment. And with a closed mind concept of not support Apple HomeKit.
