see below pics
purchased a new nest thermostat for our home. Home is 2 years old
System had a Honeywell thermostat before
i have a heat pump w/ AC all electric no gas.
installed nest thermostat but had wires left over. The pink and gray wires that went into the top S1 slots didn’t have a home in the new wiring “harness” for the new nest.
AC works and Heat work fan turns on and off- don’t see any issues with system function.
is this all ok? Do I have the right thermostat? Set up said it was “somewhat compatible” but don’t have an explanation.
Is it ok that I clipped the bare wire down to the insulation on the two wires with no home and bent them back so there’s no contact?
Thanks in advance

Hello Knapps,
Thanks for posting here in the Community. Based on the photos of the wires from your current thermostat, this is a heat pump system. This should be compatible with any type of Nest Thermostat.
The correct wiring configuration for that in the Nest thermostat is:
1. Yellow wire on Y or Y1
2. Red wire on R or RH/RC
3. Green wire on G
4. White wire on W or W1
5. Blue wire on C
6. Orange wire on O/B
Take note S1 (pink and gray wires) are sensors to provide temperature outside and since Nest uses Wifi connection to get its outside temperature no need to connect it.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Thanks,
Edmond
