Lost power to thermostat

Nestuser606

Had my nest x 2 years working well. It started to post list WiFi connection but would automatically reset and reconnect after some time. Yesterday I lost all power to the screen (remains black) . I have 2 zone HVAC and the other remains functional. Is there a way to trouble shoot it or is it likely dead? Thank you!

Hi @Nestuser606,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear your Nest thermostat has lost power. Help's here!

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • What kind of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • When was it installed?
  • Did you get an error message?
  • Is there a wiring report or error message on your thermostat and app?
  • Do you see a blinking LED light?

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany

Hello JLclavi,

Thank you so much for posting in this community. I’m sorry to know your Nest Thermostat E is losing power and not connecting to your wifi network. So don’t worry; I’m happy to help you.

To further understand this situation, could you please help me by answering these questions?

  • When did the issue first occur?
  • Do you have a C wire connected to your thermostat? For your reference, check out this article: Learn about the common or C wire.
  • Have you performed some troubleshooting steps before? If so, tell me what you have taken.
  • Have you tried to charge up your thermostat?
  • Do you see an error code on the display?

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,

Daniel

Hi JLclavi,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. I appreciate this useful information.

To recharge the battery of your Nest Thermostat E, simply connect it to a USB power source using the port on the back.

  1. Pull off the thermostat display.
  2. Plug it into a USB port on your computer or a wall charger like the one that you use to charge your phone.
  3. A blinking light on the front of your thermostat confirms that it’s charging. The color of the light will depend on the battery level of the thermostat when you charge it. Usually, your thermostat will take about half an hour to recharge. But in this case, your battery seems to be fully drained; it can take as long as 2 hours to recharge.

For more information, you can check out this article: Nest thermostat USB port.

After performing these steps, reattach your device to the back-plate and try to reconnect your device to your wifi network.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel
