Lost thermostat on nest app

Fdcpa

Read all the community posts on losing thermostats on the nest app.  Nothing seems to work.  Frustrating.  Heard so many other issues I think I’ll just go back to dependable programmable mechanical thermostats that hvac pros say are reliable.  I called two pro about the best issues I have had and neither would touch nest!  Learning g thermostat apparently froze during an update and now can’t find wifi.  Just going to trash it because I have spent 10 hours reading up on fixes none of which worked.

Hi Fdcpa,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I'd love to know more about this. Is your Nest Thermostat still showing that it's connected to an account? If you haven't yet, please check this article for some troubleshooting steps you could try.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi,

This article provides the most basic of steps, all of which have either been tried or are non applicable.

I added a Nest thermostat to handle my cooling system which is separate from my heating.  I did this successfully through the Google Home app as instructed.

The existing Nest learning thermostat then disappeared from the Nest app.  When I go through the process to try to add it, it requests a 7 digit code that is supposed to be within the settings on the thermostat.  It is indicated an account already exists, most likely because my wife has the app on her phone and the thermostat is still present within that.

So the questions becomes, do I wipe it out on her phone and risk losing it entirely?  Seems like a big chance to take given all of the issues with this product.

Thanks

Hi Fdcpa,

Thanks for the response and added information. If you still want your wife to have access on the thermostat, you can be added as a home member on the Google Home app. Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. Switch to the home you want to share.
  3. At the top, tap Add Add and then Invite home member and then Invite person.
    • If you don't find "Invite home member," tap Add person to home.
  4. Enter the name or email address of the person you want to invite to your home and then tap Next.
  5. Review what’s shared when you add someone to your home and then tap Next.
  6. Review the person’s access to your home and then tap Send.
  7. If your Google Family Group isn’t full and the person you’re inviting isn’t already in one, you should get the option to invite them to your Google Family Group.
    • To invite them, tap Add to Family.
    • To skip this step, tap No Thanks.
    • Note: You can have up to 6 members in a Google Family Group.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Edward
