Manual schedule

Hi all, here’s hoping you can help. I have set up a schedule which is predominantly driven by temperatures. However, what I’d like to know is if I can have a schedule based on times, for example, I don’t want the heating to come on in the middle of the night when we’re all asleep as this is a waste of energy. I’ve set the temperature to the lowest setting of 9 degrees but, because it’s so cold in the UK at the moment, the heating is coming on. Ideally I’d like the thermostat to be completely switched off between two times, I.e. 11pm to 7am and for the remains 16 hours to be working in accordance with the temperatures I want throughout the day. With energy prices so high, it makes no sense to have heating on when one is asleep.

If you set your safety temps lower, even to off, you may be able to set the schedule temps lower, maybe even to off.

As far as I can tell, there is no way to create a schedule that includes a period of "Off" mode, as you want to do, nor any way to schedule a temperature lower than 9.  I wish the Nest allowed lower temperatures; I can't imagine why they made that design decision.  You can manually turn the Nest to Off at 11 and back on at 7, but that's obviously inconvenient.  (As @Kfergus999 mentions, make sure your Safety Temperature is as low as it will go, or turn it off entirely.  You don't want to trigger the Safety Temperature, as sometimes the Nest gets confused after that.)  The only small comfort is that if the Nest maintains a temperature of 9 overnight, it won't have to run as long to get to your 7am temperature.  So you may not be wasting all that much energy.

Hello folks,

We hear you — we're always looking for ways to improve, and we appreciate your feedback. Currently, turning off the system by schedule is not available. As scheduled, the thermostat only follows your desired temperatures on a specific day or time, and the thermostat will maintain the temperature until the next schedule. To save energy, setting up "Eco" temperatures might help.

Here's an article explaining how it works; please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns; otherwise, we'll close this thread in 24 hours.

Regards,

Mark
