Multi-stage heating mode doesn't work for Nest learning 3rd gen with only Y1 wire

I have a dual fuel setup. -12C and belows kick in for gas and otherwise on heatpump. My original thermostat Y2 has never been connected while it still triggers low and hi heat automatically, and we always notice the difference in terms of fan speed and heat delivery speed. With Nest learning 3rd gen. It never triggers hi heat mode and it never gets more than 23C even I set target at 27. It does heat up but not enough and fan speed never rev up. I do have G wire connected and W1 for alter. heat on gas. It seems even I force to run on alter. (gas mode), it heats up faster but fan speed still low. I can feel good hot air when I put my hand in front of register but not enough CFM.

Speaking of Y2, it's not connected to the furnace nor heat pump. I do have the light blue wire but it shows not detected even I insert it. But I'm 100% sure lo. normal and hi. heat mode was functioning well even with only Y1 wire connect with my original thermostat. Model: lennox 51M37 @CoolingWizard please help

Hi, @RookieDaniel!

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand the multi-stage heating mode appears not to be working with only the Y1 wire, and I'm very sorry your system isn't heating sufficiently. I'm happy to assist you.

To gather the necessary information and troubleshoot effectively, please provide the following:

  • A picture of your old wiring configuration.

  • If you're comfortable, a picture of your control board (usually located near the furnace).

  • A picture of the current wiring configuration in your Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen).

Additionally, please answer these questions:

  • Is the thermostat displaying any error codes?

  • Is there a connector labeled "C" on your thermostat?

  • When did you install the thermostat?

  • Do you have a conventional or heat pump system?

    • Conventional System: Typically consists of two pieces of equipment (a furnace and an AC unit).

    • Heat Pump: Handles both heating and cooling with a single unit.

  • Do you have a schedule set?

  • Do you have a Nest Renew subscription, or are you enrolled in the Rush Hour Rewards program?

Additionally, please share screenshots of the Nest app, including the available options and features.

This information will help me provide more accurate guidance. Thank you for your cooperation. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Ana
