Multiple temperature sensors went offline at the same time

I've had a nest thermostat and 3 temperature sensors set up for about 6 months now with zero connectivity issues. Just today all three temp sensors are "offline".

All the trouble shooting says is "try moving then closer", which is not the case since they have been there for 6 months. Could the factory Duracell batteries only be half charged? Saw a YouTube video that claims the batteries should last several years, which seems to make sense for the power draw on the battery.

Hey there Nateb22,

That's interesting that multiple sensors went offline at the same time!  It's a possibility that it may be a battery issue, so I'd be happy to help you look into it. The Nest Temperature Sensor comes with a CR2 Lithium battery, are those currently the batteries you are using? If the battery is low or falls below 3.65 volts, the sensor can't transmit the temperature data to the thermostat. Did you receive any kind of notification of a low battery on those sensors? If you did, here is how to replace them:

  1. Insert a coin into the slot on the back of the sensor.
  2. To unscrew the battery cover, turn the coin.
  3. Replace the battery.
  4. Place the cover back.

If you didn't receive any kind of notification that the battery is low, it may point to a different issue.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

No indication a low battery. Also strange, they all came back online a few hours later and then the next night at roughly the same time they went out again and then back on a few hours later.

Hey there,

Thanks for these added details. Based on your description, this seems to be caused by a certain setting on your WiFi router. Do you know how to access your router settings? If yes, could you try setting your Wi-Fi router's DHCP lease time to at least 2 hours? If you're unsure how to do it, you might need to reach out to your internet service provider or your router manufacturer.

Also, to know more about the necessary router settings that you need to check, take a look at this link: https://goo.gle/2MJZPrV

Keep me posted.

I checked, it is currently set to 86400 seconds, which if I am calculating that correctly it's 24 hours?

It is a new 2 in 1 router/modem, but it worked fine for at least a month before this. And now it stops working sporadically, like once every week to week and a half.

Hey Nateb22,

My apologies for the delay here — I overlooked this.

Is it possible to have this thermostat connected to a different WiFi network so that we can further have it observed? Also, do you have more than one Nest thermostat on this WiFi network?

Best,

Melba
