I've been working on this issue for a week now. It's very cold, we are using space heaters until the situation is rectified. It started off by saying no wi-fi connectivity. Then I got red blinking lights. Took off the thermostat and connected to USB cable for 24 hours. Still getting the red lights and no screen. Please help. We've had the nest now for about two years

The red blinking LED sure says that the (rechargeable) battery voltage is too low. In case of the charging off-line (USB) it would resolve the problem (perhaps temporarily) only if the battery cell is able to hold the charge.
I suspect the heater system (and Nest) was powered down during the summer and the battery degraded if the thermostat was old(er).
Do you have separate power (C) wire wired-up to supply the thermostat? That might alleviate the problem if the battery is weak.
When the red led indicates low voltage state the Nest won't connect to the network and will not function.
Sorry about that!
Please share details about your system wiring.

Hi folks,
Thanks for your help, @Mates.
@Servantt and @lexmunoz, yikes! I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat doesn't turn on though you've charged it already. Let's see what's going on. A few questions:
I'll look forward to your responses.
Best,
