My thermostat is frozen with sporadic green/red blinking light. Does not restart on rebooting. It was working well for the last 2 years. Tried charging with USB. Showd green light but no further actions. Does not move beyond home screen. Please help.

Hello Kunal,

Thanks for reaching out to us and welcome to the community! We're sorry to hear about your thermostat troubles. It can be confusing to try and decode your thermostat's light colors at times! Let's work on this together.

A blinking red light does mean your thermostat's battery is low. A blinking green light means that your thermostat is updating its software. It does need to charge with USB, and can take up to 2 hours to fully charge if its battery is drained. After its charged, I suggest a factory reset as the software update could've been interrupted.

Let us know how it goes! If this doesn't help your issue, let me know here and we'll get right back to troubleshooting. 🙂

I've tried charging with USB and a pop says I should re-attach to unit-- should I continue to charge and ignore?

Hi tfbertolami,

An hour of charging should be enough for the Nest Thermostat. I suggest pressing and holding the back of the display for three seconds or until the message disappears.

Best,
Jenelyn
