Navigating from numbers back to letters on Nest Thermostat

SOS!  I switched routers and have a new wifi network name and password, so thus all of my nest thermostats are disconnected.  I understand how to update the wifi network however my password uses numbers first, then letters. Once I enter the numbers in my password I cannot navigate back to letters,,,,the only option is a keyboard that uses unusual symbols.  cannot find any help anywhere. I also attempted to do this from my google home app / devices.  This lead to another deadend as the instructions advised if I wanted to change my network on my nest i should update my network settings on my phone! which obviously I am already on the new network±

Hi @whanson,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm truly sorry to hear you're having a difficult time reconnecting your Nest Thermostat after switching to a new router and Wi-Fi network. It's completely frustrating to be stuck when your password starts with numbers and you can't navigate to letters on the thermostat's keyboard. I'm here to assist you with this.

Let's try a specific trick that often helps with this type of keyboard navigation.

When you're typing your Wi-Fi password and you've entered the initial numbers, you mentioned seeing a keyboard with unusual symbols.

  • Look for a button or option on the screen that allows you to cycle through different keyboard layouts. This button often changes the type of characters you can enter.
  • Tap or select that symbol button once. This should bring up the "unusual symbols" keyboard you're currently seeing.

  • Now, tap or select that same button again. This second tap should then cycle you back to the letters keyboard (often labeled "ABC"), allowing you to enter the alphabetical part of your password. You would use the thermostat's ring to select this option.

Please try this specific sequence of tapping the keyboard-switch button twice to get back to the letters. Let me know how it goes, and keep me posted on your progress!

Regards,

Kevin
