Neat thermostat compatibility

  • I have seven wires on my existing thermostat- R, W2, W1, Y, G, O, B.     Can I install a nest thermostat?    And if I can where does the extra wire go?

@Kmr428

Can you post a picture of your current thermostat's wiring here?

Based on the wires you have listed, the Nest Learning Thermostat is the most compatible with your system. But I need to see the original wiring to be sure.

It says I don’t have permission to post a picture.    I tried it with my original post

It looks like you have a Trane unit and they use B for the C terminal.

Only the Nest Learning Thermostat will be 100% compatible with your system.

Try this wiring,

Red - R to Rc

Black - W2/X2 to * (set as Emergency Heat)

White - W1 to W2/AUX (set as AUX Heat)

Yellow - Y to Y1

Green - G to G

Orange - O to OB

Blue - B to C

You might be able to use the Google Nest Thermostat (mirrored display) if you tape off the black wire. But then you lose the emergency heat feature.
