Nest 3rd Gen - no power if t1 and t2 are connected.

I bought a used Nest 3rd Gen from CEx (This may be where the problem arises! 🤔 )
Trying to install it in place of my current thermostat:

  • I found the mains voltage Live and Neutral wires in the wiring of my cylinder and instead ran them to the Heat Link.  And connected my call for heat wire to (3). Tested, and the Heat Link turns on, yellow light came on.
  • Then I wired the exsisting wires that run through my house to the thermostat location to T1 and T2, and connected the connection ring where the thermostat will go, and there's no sign of life on the Heat Link. The screen doesn't come on, nor does the Heat Link.

Even with the screen unplugged from the connection ring part, no life even at the Heat Link. I tested again, T1 and T2 connected to the screen's connection part the Heat Link is dead. Unplug the T1 or T2 and it's alive again.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Hey @b3nb123,

I'm sorry to hear it wasn't a smooth installation and use of the thermostat, but I'll do my best to assist you.

  • Here's the installation guide that you should've used: https://bit.ly/3nt2N4t. You can check if the wiring is done correctly in this guide.
  • Are there any lights currently on the Heat Link?
  • If you press the button on the Heat Link once to put it on Manual Mode, does anything change?
  • Did you test the voltage that goes into the Heat Link and into the T1-T2 wires?
