Nest 3rd gen outdoor temperature wrong

The weather on my thermostat and the Nest/Google home app are always off by 5 or more degrees. As an example, when I put my zipcode in any weather app or website, it’ll say 30 degrees but the Nest will say 25. I’ve removed and added my phone from the thermostat, reset the thermostat, reset the network settings and still it’s off. This is an issue since I have a heat pump and the auxiliary heat comes on when it goes below a certain temperature.

Hi @Brownn74,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat is showing an incorrect temperature readout, and it is a difference of 5 degrees.

Before we continue, I have some questions.

  • What type of thermostat do you have?
  • Where did you install your thermostat?
  • Do you have another active thermostat?
  • When did the issue start?

In the meantime, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Turn on the sun block in your thermostat.

Google Home App

  1.  Open the Home app and select the thermostat.
  2. Tap Settings Temperature preferences Sunblock.
  3. Turn the sunblock on.

For Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen or earlier) and Nest Thermostat E only.

On the thermostat display, go to Settings, then Nest Sense, and then Sunblock.

Select Yes to make sure Sunblock is on.

  • Disconnect the thermostat from the WiFi network.

Disconnect the thermostat from the Wi-Fi network for 24 hours to monitor the ambient temperature, and contact support afterward. To disconnect the thermostat from the network, select Settings, then Network, and then Disconnect.

I’ll be waiting for your reply.

Best regards,

Derick.
