Nest App goes offline after adjusting temperature on Nest thermostat

Nest App goes offline after adjusting temperature on Nest thermostat. Both of my thermostats experience the same problem. They are connected and show the temperature and set points and schedules until I make a change on the app to lower or increase the thermostat set point. Then after about 60 seconds the app indicates that this thermostat is "just now OFFLINE" while the thermostat is still online without getting adjusted by the app. After 2 minutes it will reconnect and show the thermostat back online.

This has been going on for a few months. I've had the thermostats for years without this issue.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app on my phone and disconnected the thermostats from wifi and reconnected them as well.

We have Focus internet service and a mesh router with 3 pods to provide good wifi coverage throughout the house. I believe this problem started after we installed the new Focus router whish feeds our Mesh router.

Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?

I am having the exact same issue with no changes to wifi or equipment that has worked for years. Any adjustment to temp or schedule makes thermostat go offline. Looks like a different brand thermostat may be in my future. Who makes a thermostat without a hold temp anyway?

Hi folks,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing connectivity issues with your Nest Thermostats and the Nest app. Connectivity problems after making changes to the thermostat's set points can be frustrating, but there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to restore the proper functionality of your Nest thermostats and the Nest app:

  1. Verify that your Nest Thermostats have a strong and stable Wi-Fi signal. You mentioned having a mesh router with three pods, which should help provide good coverage throughout your house. However, it's worth checking the signal strength near the thermostats to ensure they are receiving a reliable connection.
  2. Try power cycling your network equipment, including your mesh router, pods, and modem. Turn off each device, wait a few seconds, and then power them back on. This can help refresh the network connection and potentially resolve any temporary issues.
  3. Ensure that your Nest Thermostats and mesh router are running the latest firmware versions available. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause compatibility or connectivity issues. Check the manufacturer's website for any available updates and follow the instructions to update your devices if necessary.
  4. Within your mesh router's settings, check for any specific settings that could be affecting the connection between the Nest Thermostats and the app. Look for options related to device prioritization or band steering, and experiment with different settings to see if they make a difference.

Keep us posted. We're happy to help.

Best,

Zoe
