Nest App on iPhone

JacobMarley
Community Member

I have been locked out of the NEST app on my iPhone.  When I do a "reset password", no reset email is received.  The only help I can find is that it is suggested I'm using the wrong email or password.  Both obviously not true as I can sign in to Google Nest other places, including this forum.  I am forced to operate the thermostat physically.  This has been going on for about two weeks, and I'm ready to throw out the thermostat and buy a $15 from Home Depot that doesn't waste my time. and is as functional as this one is now.

BTW, this may be in the wrong category, but there was not a category for App problems.

@JacobMarley

Are you absolutely certain you are using the same Google Account you were previously using to log into the Google Nest app? I'm only asking because others have inadvertently used the wrong account.

I don't have another account.  Looks like maybe I should uninstall the app and begin again setting up as a new user with a new account?

If you switch to a different Google Account, you'll need to go through the same steps you'd go through when moving: removing the thermostat from the Google Nest app or Google Home app, doing a factory reset, and then reinstalling:

When you said you are "locked out" of the Google Nest app, do you mean you are unable to log in? The only reason I'm aware this should occur is if you enter the wrong username or password. Were you previously logging in with an older Nest Account (a non-Google account that has never been migrated to a Google Account)?

Thank you for the link.  I'll start over with a new account.  Yes, I am locked out of the app on my phone.  When I click on the app, it asks for a password.  It won't accept the password.  When I do a "password reset", no email is sent to do the reset.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago on my computer when my computer crashed.  Google would not accept the new computer, despite the correct password, forcing me to create a new account (there's more to the story, including a lot of back and forth interaction and secondary verification).  I'm not a fan of Google.  Not sure why I thought a thermostat would be better.  It's a heat on, heat off thing.  Not the major time consuming nightmare it has become.

Thank you for your help, despite my dislike of Google.

I'm just another Google Nest customer, and am not following all of what's happened in your case, but if it's a Google Account that you are unable to sign on with, perhaps this Google Account Help page will help:

Thank you for the help.  I did a factory reset, reloaded the app, and created a new account used only for the thermostat.  It works fine.  Since it was quick and easy, it should have been my first step rather than last.
