Nest App setup issue

Brian303
Community Member

@ The Nest App is working fine on my phone (iOS) but tried to set it up for second person living in house…   I installed app on her phone(iOS)  and signed in with her Google account ..then when tried to enter key from settings on thermostat, states” this thermostat is connected to an account“. Can’t she sign in with her own gmail? Or All Nest apps in one home have to use same gmail? Thanks. Brian.

Hey Brian303,

Got it — thanks for getting back to me and for these added details. I also understand how you feel about this.

TD013 means that your Nest thermostat has issues connecting to the Nest app or WiFi network. The easiest workaround that you can try is to create a new home on your Nest app then set up your second thermostat there. However if you want the two devices on just one single home, please go through the suggested troubleshooting steps here: https://bit.ly/2N8dyvF

The thermostat is already setup, so you can't add the device to her app in the same way as you did in your app. Download the Google Home app (if you haven't already) and sign in. Then follow the "Invite members to a home" steps in this help article. She should receive an email invitation, and can follow the "Accept a home member invitation" steps. Once accepted, your "home" and thermostat should appear in her Nest app.

Hi David thanks so much for your reply. I did follow all those steps above the invite went through fine and when I open the Nest app on her phone it does show “our home”. However there is no thermostat showing so when I click the add product icon I go through the same steps as noted above when it finally asked for the code on the thermostat ..in the thermostat settings.. I scroll to Nest app..& it says this thermostat is already connected  to an account. I feel like I am going in circles. Greatly appreciate any other ideas.

Is her phone connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the thermostat? When she accepted the home invitation, did the Google Home app prompt her to finish setup and add devices?

As I said, you don't and can't add the thermostat to her Nest app like you did during setup on your phone. It's already setup and will keep telling you it's already connected to an account. That's not an issue, it's just not how you share your thermostat.

Which Nest thermostat do you have?

If you have the Google Nest Thermostat, then you have to use the Google Home App. The other two must use the Nest App.

Thanks Melba …I appreciate your following up….now I am back to square 1, or maybe zero..lol.
I started to set up my partner on Google Home …. I first went to double check which email the nest app account is using on my iOS phone and found that the Nest app there was no longer connected to the devices in the house (they were there and could control them fine for several months.) When I tried to add a device on my phone
Nest app using the QR code on the nest thermostat, the next step asks for the code from the
nest settings… but when I look for the code it says the nest app is connected , so no code is displayed. I suppose my next step is to reset all  the devices in the house and start from scratch? And Should I use Google Home for both of us or I can use the Nest app on my phone  and then  invite her on the Google Home home?
I really appreciate any suggestions.
Best,
Brian

Hey Brian,

You're welcome and sorry to hear that you've run into another roadblock. Have you tried logging into your Nest app using other email addresses that could possibly be the account where your devices are connected to? If you don't remember the account anymore, then the best course to take would be to reset the account connection settings of your thermostat to be able to proceed with the setting it up on the email address of your choice. Here's a guide: https://bit.ly/3riP5Dp

Also, you need to use the Nest app to set it up if what you have is the Nest Learning Thermostat or the Nest Thermostat E. Afterwards, invite your wife through the Google Home app.

Thanks so much for your follow up..I actually sent an update...Maybe it went to a different thread...  I reset all the thermostats and deleted everything from the Nest App on my iOS. I set up the living room successfully(all on same Wifi network) and then successfully added it to the App. I then went to bedroom to do the same..the Nest got online fine..but when trying to add product to App, I got this error: TD013(4096). I then deleted everything again..and this time did bedroom first. It worked fine, but when adding Living room as second Nest, got same error.   Frustrating..thanks for your thoughts. Best, Brian
