Nest E won't charge

I just purchased the Nest E for a 2 wire (red/white) boiler/radiator home system.  When I initially attached the thermostat I gota blinking red light.   I took it off and charged it with a USB for 10 minutes.  This allowed me to get through some of the setup.  I had usb charge a second time to complete setup.  During setup, the red-light changed to blinking white.  Once setup was complete, I  raised the temp control to test the radiators.  It took a bit, but they did come on.  While checking the app see if I can see battery life, I noticed it was no longer connected.  Going back to the thermostat, it is no longer blinking and shows low power, app not connected, etc.  I tried a reset.  Won't charge.  This is the second nest and third smart thermostat i have tried.  Previous thermostat was a basic digital with batteries.

Hello Rwolniak,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. I’m sorry to know that your Nest Thermostat E is not working as you expected due to this not holding a charge. No worries, I'm here to help.

In many situations, you might need to connect a common wire (C wire) or the Nest Power Connector to make your system compatible, even though Nest thermostats are made to use very little power. If your thermostat's battery cannot be reliably charged by the power your system provides, you will need to use these alternatives.

To get more information about this behavior, check out this article: Learn about the common or C wire

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Daniel

I figured that would be the issue.  I'll just keep the old thermostat.  The Nest is not worth all this trouble.  It will be too difficult to install the c-adapter.  Thank you for answering.

Hey Rwolniak,
