Nest First Generation Offline - green light blinking, no display

Hello, I have a Nest First Generation  and its offline--therefore the furnace is not running. There's no display, or light so I cannot get to menu options to reset. When I remove and re-attach it, a green light blinks.  Is it just broken? Or what? It's been offline for about 2 hours according the the app. It was certainly working last night.   Is this fixable?

A blinking green light near the top of the thermostat display means that it’s updating the software, starting up, or restarting. Typically, this should only last a minute or two but if the light blinks green and your thermostat is unresponsive for more than 15 minutes, it may have frozen during the update. I would make sure the pin connector is lined up correctly and push it back onto the base. You should hear a click to confirm it is properly seated. If reconnecting the display hasn't help, you can manually restart it by following these steps.

Thanks for the replies ! Unfortunately, manually restarting by holding it down did not work. Nor did reattaching the pins to the base.

the furnace maintenance guy thinks that because the furnace turned off automatically in the middle of the night, the First Gen Nest got no electricity had to run on battery for a number of hours, and just couldn't do it.

I saw no way of replacing the rechargeable batteries....so I just bought a new Nest Learning Thermostat. (It was 11 years old so I feel like I got a pretty good deal)..
