It is ridiculous to disable perfectly good devices in order to upsell to newer devices. I have 2 homes, each with a gen 2 thermostat that both work fine. I DO NOT want to integrate with other google home crap; I just want to be able to monitor my 2 homes for temperature. Sonos tried this same program in 2020 and due to overwhelming negative feedback managed to quickly create a simple S1 controller for the older devices I spent thousands on. (Which all still work wonderfully, by the way!)
Google: Create a standalone Nest Thermostat app for the gen 1 & gen 2. I will buy new thermostats when my current ones die.

I hope there is a class action. Our gen 2 was perfect… no issues till they intentionally broke it. I bought the new one and installed it and it’s not able to tell the actual temp. I HATE IT

Just imagine how you would think if after 10 years your car suddenly didn't work without a crank to start it. And only because the manufacturer thought it was too hard to maintain any support for it.
Doesn't sound like a good idea to do this to my 10 year old thermostats.

I am amazed at how silent Google has been about this debacle. I asked Chatgpd how many Gen1&2 thermostats have been installed and the estimate was around 2-3 million thermostats. This is a huge economic issue collectively for the millions of users that must live with a diminished product. I have 12 gen 1&2 thermostats and the email that guides you to replacement will only allow the purchase of 2 Gen 4 thermostats. Despite hours of trying to connect with a real person to help with the transition, I still have found no path to address my situation in total. If anyone has found a path to address multiple thermostats , please let me know. If a class action lawsuit is in development, please include me in the litigation.
