Nest Heat Link Problem

Neighbs14

Hi

have had my nest system since I moved in three years ago but the system has been here longer.
nest thermostat with a heat link connected to a boiler and a hot water cylinder.

in the last couple of weeks every morning I have to reset the heat link. Thermostat is calling for heat and boiler is working. When I reset my heat link I hear the click sound that means it is sending the request to the boiler.
I don’t think I have a WiFi issue in my boiler room.
every day I have to reset the heat link to get it to work again and then it works for 24 hours. Any ideas?

Just to confirm, everything is working fine after you restart the Heat Link - Correct?

Then after 24hrs ish, the thermostat to Heat Link drops connection - Correct?

Nothing has been moved since installation - Correct?

You say in the last 2 weeks this issue has started happening? Have you had anything new in the property or work done or moved anything around? This ranges from anything metalic, building work, new phones or even a new Smart Meter?

Yes that’s correct. It works for 24 hours no issue then drops.
In terms of changes, I have added an extra time to the schedule so the heating comes on at 1am now where it never previously did. I wondered if the schedule was the issue so I deleted the whole schedule and reloaded it but still the same issues.
we have also had a new washing machine and tumble dryer installed recently in the utility room which is where the nest link is.

You could delete the schedule so nothing is setup just to prove that's not the issue.

That could be your problem with new appliances. Have you had appliances in the same position before the problem?

How far away from the dsiplay is the Heat Link, and are the appliances between them?

Has the problem started since they have been installed? Are they App or Wi-Fi controlled?

I have tried to delete the schedule and redo it already and didn’t seem to fix the issue.

The nest thermostat is across the room from the new appliances but I have had them for over a month until this issue has begun. The thermostat is about 1.5m away from the heat link and having just checked I believe they are on a wired connection so don’t believe there is an interference there.

I wondered if it was a wiring issue but then it doesn’t seem to make sense that the link / automation works for 24h and then malfunctions. It would seem to me that any connection issue would be permanent not happening on a cyclical basis.

You removed the schedule and left blank I take it?

You can check if wired/wireless or both in Equipment.

The appliance issue causes many strange problems along with phones, but if you say they have been fitted earlier, who knows.

Have you tried a full factory reset?

Have a bit of an update. My previous schedule included a True Radiant setting of 4 hours (so 4 hours of pre heat at night to get the house to temperature). When I added a 1am-3am scheduled boiler burn to my schedule I reduced the True Radiant down to 1 hour. Last night I changed that back to 4 hours and the nest worked perfectly. It’s not ideal as the spacing between scheduled burns overnight is now less than 4 hours so it basically means my boiler is on all night long in either pre heat or heating mode but that at least seems to be the issue.

Understood, that's why I mentioned removing all schedule to test. A blank canvas removes any doubt, then you add from there.

Hi @Neighbs14,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your Heat Link, but no need to worry; help is here.

To get a better understanding of the situation, please help me out by answering the following questions:

  • Which kind of thermostat are you using?
  • How is the LED light on the Heat Link doing?
  • Does the hot water activation follow a pattern?
  • Does the display show a water droplet inside of a circle? This icon suggests whether or not hot water or bacteria prevention is activated.

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Regards,

Gabriela
